Getting too drunk to be obligated to pay your bar tab is not a good excuse…
Rapper T.I. talked some 25 year old kid off of a roof today in Atlanta. The news reports say that T.I. appeared out of “nowhere” and I feel bad thinking that this was some kind of planned stunt. I am a big fan of T.I. and for those that know me, I am a big fan of hip-hop in general. I would love to believe that T.I. really just showed up and helped to save this kid’s life. I would love to believe that as I am an optimistic person but it just seems a little strange. Given that T.I. himself is in a bit of trouble for being arrested recently, it would seem that this act of kindness might bode well at a sentencing hearing.
We will see how this story develops but for some reason I am just questioning the validity of all of this. But, at the very least, I am happy if he was really able to save that guy’s life! I saw It’s Kind of a Funny Story, has anyone else seen it? I never understand it when they call a movie a “dramatic comedy”. I feel like it should either be a drama or a comedy but nonetheless I decided to see the movie. It addresses issues about depression and this kid who thinks he wants to kill himself (if you want to see the movie, stop reading this). He ends up in an adult psychiatric ward and learns that things are not so bad after all. It touches upon ideas surrounding people who have suicidal tendencies and it makes you want to tell people who may feel that way that things will get better. Life is worth living! Perhaps that is what T.I. told that kid on the roof, in fact, based on the news reports, I am thinking that is exactly what he said…and I am also starting to feel bad that I was saying that it was all a made up story. We will see.
On one other note, I find it interesting that despite the joy and magnitude of how all of the Chilean miners were rescued, there is already drama surfacing. There are already reports about whether a miner’s wife or mistress was there to greet him. Really??!! I guess the celebration only lasts so long before that isn’t interesting anymore.
Heroes v. Villains. Who is watching Survivor? I like how they have divided everyone into Heroes and Villains, although everyone is strategizing against everyone but where is that line between being a hero or a villain? I think you can apply this mentality to anything really. You want a promotion at work but have to get ahead of a co-worker, are you being a villain or just over-achieving to get what you want? I actually had someone tell me a story one day about how to “kill” someone at work. It was a sad moment for me as I couldn’t believe that someone would actually take that much time to figure out how to get someone fired at work. I have always had the mindset that if you do a good job, you try hard and you work hard, those that do not share that same mentality will find their way out of the door. I personally could not last very long on Survivor as living in a jungle isn’t my thing but I love watching the challenges and seeing how people “survive” in that environment. Let me know if you are watching the show and who you want to win!

I watch American Idol. Now, I don’t sit through each and every episode but I do watch it. I wish I was more familiar with the rules though as I know one guy got kicked off for having a record deal but then there are other people on the show who have professional experience as well so I am not sure I am clear on the legal rules for who and who cannot be on American Idol. I am sure I could look it up but I am not that interested.
So far I think the guy from Fort Worth is good (I think he said Fort Worth?), the guy that did the Kelly Clarkson song (even though Simon hated it) and I knew the guy that was the Jim Morrison twin would go home. My not so legal advice to him would be to still sing though as I think he did have some star potential but I knew the audience wouldn’t vote for him. After years of seeing bands and working with bands as clients, it is easy to spot the ones that may have a shot artistically but no shot with the voting audience. I am going to keep doing posts about American Idol so let me know who you will be voting for this year!

Happy 11:36 am to all. I had never seen this comedian before so perhaps I am a bit behind the times but you have to see this:
I cannot for the life of me get into Jersey Shore, which, maybe I should given that I think this is so funny but definitely check this guy out.
The other thing to check out is 1912 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. I met this woman who consults for people about what kind of watch to buy. One might wonder why anyone would ever consult with someone to figure out what kind of watch to buy. However, the woman has made a living out of it and showed me some watch where the manufacturer only makes 4,000 of them total. You can check it out at www.meehnagoldsmith.com — tell her the Not So Legal Show sent you. (her website is still being built but her contact info is on there)
One last thing, check out www.missvampy.net. Curious to get feedback on this one, more details on that later.
This isn’t exactly a legal topic but I felt compelled to write about it anyway as it somewhat reminded me of the same feeling when I am talking to opposing counsel and they say something that is really annoying.
So, I was watching E! and they have a new show called Bank of Hollywood. It is so embarrassing that I kind of had to stop watching it. Basically people come on and ask for money for whatever they want in front of a panel of judges, which includes Candy Spelling and a few others. There was an 8 year old kid who wanted to go to the Tap Olympics. He was cute, danced like Michael Jackson and they gave him the money. However, then a couple came on who wanted 75k for their wedding. They looked like actors, they were not even engaged and the whole thing had such an air of awkwardness that I literally had to change the channel! I get that people want money and feel compelled to go on a show and ask for it. But even in those circumstances, it would be nice to see some genuine requests.
